Our Church's History
Grace Reformed Church
began as four families who met together for weekly Bible Study and
prayer in 1999 (one of which who is still with us). By 2001, these
families had rented a small office space in which they met for
morning and evening worship.
During this time, they relied
upon visiting Presbyters and students from Mid-America Reformed
Seminary for pulpit supply. Mr. McShaffrey was under care in
the Presbytery of the Midwest and a student at Mid-America Reformed
Seminary when he first visited this mission work in 2002. He was
encouraged by their commitment to establish a reformed witness in
the Reedsburg community. After his graduation in 2003, Mr.
McShaffrey moved his family to Reedsburg to serve as a ministerial
intern under the over sight of Bethel OPC in Oostburg, WI.
The Lord began to bless the church in all abundance. Besides
having a full-time Preacher, the church also found a spacious and
highly visible building on Main Street in which to meet. The church
worshipped in that building for two years and when it sold they
began renting from First Presbyterian Church (PCUSA).
In
2005, Dennis Baldridge, Todd Henreckson, and Fred Hermes were
nominated to serve as Elders, began training, and were appointed to
the Steering Committee in 2007.
Through the years, Grace
Reformed Church has learned together that while buildings come and
buildings go, and while families come and families go, the promise
of Christ ever remains: “I will build my church; and the gates of
hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)
