The Word

The most conspicuous characteristic of our church may very well be the honor, attention, and obedience we endeavor to give to the Word of God (which we hold to be inspired by God, infallible by its very nature, and actually inerrant in every matter to which it speaks).

Our firm commitment to the Bible can be observed in the following:

The Word & Worship

Scripture not only regulates our public worship, but it also permeates each service. When we come together as God’s people in worship it is primarily to hear the voice of our God. For this reason, much of our time in worship is spent listening to, reading responsively, and singing portions of Scripture.

The Word & Preaching

While God’s Word is to be read by all, we also believe that God has gifted and called some men to expound and apply that Word to his people with all spiritual authority. Therefore, an expositional and experiential sermon is preached in every worship service by our Pastor-teacher.

The Word & Discipleship

God has no greater joy than he is able to watch his children walk in the light of his revealed truths. Therefore, we encourage every member to study God’s Word to show himself approved and we also provide several opportunities to study and discuss what the Bible says and how it should effect our lives.

The Word & Fellowship

While it is common in the societies of men for like-minded people to associate together, there is no better foundation for true and lasting fellowship than the like-mindedness which comes to those who share the mind of Christ as it is revealed in Scripture. Therefore, our communion and conversations are also centered on Scripture.

The Word & Witness

There is nothing more repugnant to God and injurious to the witness of his Church than when people profess faith in him but do not walk according to his commandments.  Therefore, we endeavor to be zealous for good works (as they are defined in Scripture) so that men will see these good works and glorify our Father in heaven.

The Word & Conscience

Christ alone is Lord of the conscience and he has graciously left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men.  Therefore, and while we do heartily debate those matters in which the Scriptures are not entirely clear, we reject and abhor legalism as much as we do antinomianism.
