The corporate worship of God's
people is the most important
function of a local church.
It is not merely a social gathering, but a divine act which is
initiated, empowered, and made effectual by God the Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. It is in public worship that God Almighty meets with his
people.
Please avail yourself of the information on this page so that you might
come to a better understanding and appreciation for mystery of divine
worship.
Worship
is
Divine Worship is not merely a social gathering, but a divine act
which is initiated, empowered, and made effectual by God himself. It is
in public worship that God meets
with his people.
Worship is God-centered Rather than focusing on our needs, feelings, and
aspirations, we believe that the chief end of worship is God's glory.
Therefore, all our acts of worship are designed to give him glory and
honor.
Worship is Regulated Since God appointed and presides over the public worship
of his saints, he also reserves the right to regulate it. Therefore we
only include in our worship those things which God has commanded.
Worship is Reverent Since worship is a meeting between God and his
people, we do not take it lightly. The God we worship is holy,
transcendent, and glorious. Therefore, we approach him carefully and
reverently.
Worship is Joyful We spent a great portion of our time in worship singing
praise to God because of the great redemption he has provided for us in
Christ and because of the joy we have in the Holy Spirit.
Worship is Covenantal God has always included the children of
believers in his covenant promises. Therefore, we worship as families
and encourage parents to ensure that their children are present and
seated with them.
Whether they admit it or not, all
churches follow a very deliberate order of worship.
God himself has instituted what elements are to be included in public
worship:
- Singing Psalms and Hymns
- Corporate Prayer to God
- Presentation of Offerings
- Reading and Preaching Scripture
- Administering the Sacraments
However, God has not revealed exactly how these elements are to be
ordered and inter-related. It is therefore the responsibility of
ministers to order these things in a manner which facilitates corporate
worship.
Besides making himself
known to us through his Word and Spirit, God has
also graciously provided the Sacraments; which are visible signs and
seals of his covenant of grace.
These signs have been given by God to represent Christ and his
benefits, to confirm our interest in him, to put a visible difference
between Christians and worldlings, and to encourage us in the service
of God in Christ according to his Word:
Baptism We follow the great commission of Jesus and the example of
his Apostles by welcoming believers and their children into
the church through water baptism in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
The Lord's Supper On the first Lord's Day of each month (and at other such
times that the Session deems appropriate), we celebrate
the Lord's Supper during worship.
We invite all who are right with God and the Visible Church to partake
with us.
